Reduce PC Fleet Renewal Costs and Environmental Impacts with New Greentrac Module

March 2, 2010 -- At CeBIT 2010, Greentrac vendor Event Zero in conjunction with Greentrac European distributor and reseller Karlsruhe Technology Consulting (KTC) today announced the availability of a new Greentrac module focused on desktop ICT infrastructure lifecycle management.

Advances in desktop hardware capability and reliability and prevailing business conditions mean that many enterprise workstation fleet managers are looking for ways to extend the usable lifetime of workstations beyond the traditional 3 year period aligned with accounting oriented depreciation schedules. Additionally, fleet managers are faced with regular tasks such as assessing the capability of an existing workstation fleet to support an operating system or major application suite upgrade. In order to understand the implications of extended asset lifecycles or changes to standard operating environments, there is a critical need for additional information about the usage pattern and infrastructure workloads across the fleet.

Greentrac’s award winning desktop energy management functionality has been complemented with a new set of features including the ability for fleet operators to:

  • Measure the end user experience by reaction to common functions such as file/directory interaction, user interface graphics rendering, and application actions
  • Measure overall workstation load as a function of hardware capability and user activity profile
  • View real time analysis tracking user experience and infrastructure load states across large and distributed desktop fleets
  • Produce asset lifecycle specific reports which provide analysis of this data on a granular basis by users, groups, locations, machine manufacturer, models, and SOE instances
  • Estimate likely e-waste outcomes from fleet renewal activities

These features are integrated with existing machine level activity / energy profiles that are produced by Greentrac, providing a composite picture of infrastructure utilization and efficiency in correlation with energy consumption, costs and carbon footprint.

“As well as enabling customers to realize significant energy efficiency savings in their desktop ICT infrastructure, Greentrac now provides specific asset lifecycle management information to workstation fleet managers, which allows them to realize further financial savings through efficiencies in fleet renewal, and environmental savings through reduced e-waste footprint”, said David Tucker, Event Zero CEO.

These additional features combine to deliver significant benefits to fleet operators, enabling them to significantly reduce or defer expenditure on desktop infrastructure renewal, while minimizing the enterprise and user productivity impact of extended asset service lifetimes.
