Greentrac is a dual-pronged approach to PC energy management and savings: People and IT. People come first and foremost.

People (the PC and Mac users) have the ability to save energy better than any technology if they are motivated and informed. A person knows when they are going to lunch, to a meeting or leaving the office and can take action to save energy by putting the PC to standby mode or shutting down the PC (more on IT issues such as patch management and back up below).

Personal Responsibility

Taking one second to put a PC to sleep (Standby mode) when you know you are going to a meeting is much more efficient than relying on some sophisticated trip mechanism to do so after 30 minutes of inactivity or after 8pm. Saving energy during business hours generally provides a significantly greater saving in cost than after-hours. To make real reductions in PC power waste, the person using the PC must be actively involved, and contrary to some misconceptions, this involvement does not come at a cost to office productivity. It should be as simple as turning the lights off before going to sleep at night.

Individuals can effortlessly and intuitively investigate details of energy waste by their PC through a modern portal interface.
